Living in California but growing up in Colorado my mind often thinks about all the great times of the past. One of those is my love of the Mountains. Ski and snow shoeing in the winter and hiking, camping and off roading in the summer. Spring bloom and snow run off made for some great water crossing while fall colors transform the forest. Building a vehicle that is able to handle year round conditions is a must. I built a Jeep for Jeepn’ once and it was a 2000 Jeep Cherokee 4×4.
Colorado has endless trials of all levels but one close to home and enjoyable year round was the Middle St. Vrain Trail. Trail Info
The Middle St. Vrain Trail is a 6.2 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Lyons, Colorado that features beautiful wild flowers and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, running, camping, and ohv/off road driving and is best used from May until October.
Jeep clubs are always some of the best guys in the industry. Doing a trail run monthly is a must.
If you even owned a Cherokee you know in the hotter days to watch that temp gauge. Before Mishimoto the popped hood and short stops kept it cool.
It had a Rubicon Express lift maybe a 4″ with a CB radio and some used tires off my Dads Wrangler.
Spring time is the for river and lake crossings. It’s rare to see all those snorkel intakes being put to practical use these days.
Trail days can be long and bouncy so it’s always a good idea to bring some company.
The happiness of not breaking anything that day. A great watch are those YouTube Tow Guy channels rescuing rigs.
It’s been over 10 years since living in Colorado and a day does not go by I’m not thinking about it.
